Judges You Like A Hipster, Comment Box

everyone- let's just all calm down.

we recently received a comment on one of our posts that was entirely out of line. this blog is largely a commentary on fashion. we are respectful in our posting, and make every effort not to alienate anyone on or off campus.
these comments are meant to be satirical, not mean.
it is our right to say what we are saying, if you are offended by it- don't READ it. this is a part of what makes the internet such a beautiful place.
we're not posting pictures of anyone, and we request that you have a little self respect and not post any either.
rude, tasteless, disrespectful, and just plain mean comments posted on our blog targeting anyone will deleted immediately.

thank you,
the ladies.

now, back to work.

Do you understand why this is problematic?

a. this blog may be a fashion commentary, but consists of JUGEMENTS rather than critiques. Difference being? You are asserting yourself as superior to those whose choices you disagree with.
b. The only effort you make not to alienate anyone is by couching your lofty comments in anonymity, which is largely ineffective due to our tiny campus and your, blogger, even tinier social network. The fact is, many of the people you write about know you, they may even be people you like, so why such ill-will?
c. I am perfectly willing to defend your right to post whatever you want online, however, by that same logic, isnt it my right to post MY reaction to your comments?

I dont think anyone would interpret this post as mean or disrespectful and I am willing to assert that an attempt to delete this comment would constitue outright internet fascism.

in your own words: if you're offended by it DON'T READ IT. But for the sake of balance, have the maturity not to censor comments merely because they are critical of your assertions.

To the comment above:

This post was put up mostly because people were posting pictures and insulting people's body types. We don't want this. We're strictly judging horrifying conscious fashion choices (sans pictures).

Moreover, most of our readers are our friends. We don't expect that thousands of anonymous people, such as yourself, to read this blog daily. Hence, we are not worried about being recognized.
Think of it as Gossip Girl: we all know her number and send juicy gossip to her. Do you honestly think that we can't do a phone number search?

While we appreciate your commentary, if you will, we frankly think that you don't fully understand from WHAT the post originated.
